Counselling For Mental Health
Counselling helps people cope with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and other emotional difficulties. It also provides support when someone has been diagnosed with a serious illness. This article will provide an overview of some of the common questions we get about Clinical Counselling!
What Is Counselling?
Counselling is an individualized process where a trained professional listens to a client’s concerns and offers guidance based on his or her expertise. A counsellor will ask questions, listen carefully, and offer suggestions. They might suggest ways to improve communication skills, manage stress, deal with difficult feelings, or solve problems.
Why Do People Need Counselling?
Many people need counselling because they feel overwhelmed by life events such as divorce, death, loss, abuse, bullying, or other traumatic experiences. Others seek counselling when they are having trouble dealing with everyday issues such as relationship problems, work conflicts, financial difficulties, or family problems. Still others come to counselling when they are suffering from anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance use disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Types of Counselling
There are different types of counselling available. Psychotherapy is one type of counselling where the counsellor helps clients understand how their thoughts affect them emotionally. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is another type of counselling that teaches clients new ways to cope with difficult situations. Family systems therapy focuses on helping families deal with conflict and dysfunction. Solution focused therapy helps clients identify solutions to problems.
The Role of the Therapist
A therapist is trained to listen to a client’s story and provide support. They also work with clients to develop skills to manage stress and improve emotional wellbeing.
The Process of Therapy
Therapists use different approaches to help clients understand themselves better and learn how to cope with difficult situations. These approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, solution focused brief therapy, and humanistic therapy.
